Pharmacology

As mentioned in the ICH S7A harmonized tripartite guideline entitled “Safety pharmacology studies for human pharmaceuticals”, Pharmacology studies can be divided into three categories:
  • primary pharmacodynamic: studies on the mode of action and/or effects of a substance in relation to its desired therapeutic target
  • secondary pharmacodynamic: studies on the mode of action and/or effects of a substance not related to its desired therapeutic target
  • safety pharmacology studies
The objectives of safety pharmacology studies are:
1) to identifiy undesirable pharmacodynamic properties of a substance that may have relevance to its human safety
2) to evaluate adverse pharmacodynamic and/or pathophysiological effects of a substance observed in toxicology and/or clinical
    studies
3) to investigate the mechanism of the adverse pharmacodynamic effects observed and/or suspected

Our fields of expertise in R&D for drug candidates and vaccines initially aimed at infectious diseases, HIV infections and prions. The different variations of these diseases affecting the immune system and central nervous system allowed us to develop our know-how towards new diseases of interests like allergies, metabolic & inflammatory diseases, as well as nutrition.
Our numerous technical tools are designed to be the closest to the actual physiopathology. As a result, our laboratories will work on the primary cultures of human or animal cells to evaluate and document the notions of pharmacodynamics and safety pharmacology.

Different types of compounds have been already explored using our various cell-based assays or animal models:
  • NCE (New Chemical Entities)
  • Peptides or proteins including vaccine candidates, allergens, cytokines, etc.
  • Polysaccharides or lipids, lypopolysaccharides
  • Pathogen agents (viruses, bacteria & parasites)
  • Probiotics
  • Emulsions including dermatologic emulsions
  • Particles
  • Nanomaterials
Various animal species and disease models are available from Bertin and partners:
  • Mice
  • Rats
  • Guinea pigs
  • Hamsters
  • Marmosets
  • Dogs
  • Ferrets
  • Rabbits
  • Macaques including SIV-infected macaque models
Three examples can be found in our website to illustrate our wide scientific and technical expertise:
  • Biologics
  • Antiviral molecules
  • Anti-inflammatory molecules

Your advantages working with us
  • Numerous cell models including human and animal cells
  • Numerous animal models including pathophysiological models
  • Numerous therapeutical areas (infectious diseases, inflammation, autoimmune diseases, allergy, etc.) and nutrition and dermatology
  • Comprehensive experimental conditions to be as close as possible than lesional or pathophysiological conditions
  • Dedicated & state-of-the-art platforms
